The renovation monster!

One of the big things going on for me at the moment is that Charlotte and I are having our house renovated. It’s been quite chaotic really, lots of noise and stuff everywhere.

It’s quite funny, our one-year-old Sienna’s room backs onto the family room and the kitchen and the other day we had jackhammers going and chainsaws cutting through timber and what-not but Sienna slept through the whole thing!

She even slept longer than she normally does! She normally gets up at 7.30am but slept right through to 8.30am so it was pretty funny. The noise was really loud and no normal human could sleep through it but she was crashed out. At one point I even went in to check whether she was alright but she was sleeping very peacefully. Normally we tippy toe around the kitchen so as not to wake her up but here she was sound asleep as the jackhammers and chainsaws went off. She must have heard a few racing cars in her time so she probably likes the loud noises, I’m not sure.

But a good thing is I’m getting away from it for a bit this week. I’m heading up to Royal Pines in Queensland for an Automotive Dealers Association of Australia conference event. I’ll just sort of do a meet and greet with people and have a bit of a chat while being on the Infomedia stand, who are one of my sponsors. It’s a bit warmer up there, anyway and hopefully I will squeeze in a game of golf while I’m there.

The family aren’t coming up to Queensland so Charlotte is going to have a bit of a night off too and head out to the ballet and then stay at a girlfriend’s place. A bit of a break from the renovations is very nice!

The thing with renovations is you start with one area but it just seems to grow. You take on one thing and rip it down, then you have to keep going and fix the next bit. Our intention was to make the place nice to live in but it’s turned into a monster. We’ll be stretching into the bathroom soon, I’m sure of it.

It’s been going for over a year and I can’t see it stopping for quite a while. The break from racing we’re currently on has been great to get things really moving. We’re hoping that by the time we’re back from Philip Island we should return to an almost finished house.

In regard to the upcoming races, everything is trucking along well. I basically have a brand new car after the big prang at Winton and the subsequent rebuild, but we’re pretty happy with the way things are progressing towards those events.

With Greg Murphy and I as teammates I honestly think we have a really good chance of doing well at Phillip Island and then at Bathurst. Obviously it is going to be extremely competitive but I really think we are honing in on bridging that gap and, given that it’s an enduro race, I feel we will have a good opportunity.

We’ve done some really good work so far during this break and I think it’s fair to say that everyone involved with the team is itching to get onto the track. We’re well organised and raring to go in a couple of weeks. We’ll be getting into race mode and I’m keen to get into the car.

Just to wrap things up for this week, in the next little while we’re going to be having a big auction of some of my stuff through Telstra and the Trading Post. People will be able to bid for merchandise and other stuff. But I’ll keep you posted as the details of that are released.

Have a great week

Getting the car back into shape

We’re on a break at the moment so there really isn’t too much going on. The big thing is we’ve been getting the car sorted out after the whacking it took at Winton. It’s just come back from the paint shop so it’s all looking brand new and the boys have been assembling it. It’s [...]

The drama of Winton left me peeved

Well Winton was pretty much full of drama. The weekend started off really well. I was qualifying quite well in the first two sessions but in the last session we didn’t quite get the best run out of my new tyres and the car just felt like it went a bit taily and as a [...]
