Battling to get to Bahrain

First up, to all the fellas out there make sure you start growing your mos on Thursday and send in your pics, as well as the link to your Movember page, to win some JR merchandise.

Remember, to win you have to register with Movember at www.movember.com … my competition is open to Australian and New Zealand residents and I am the judge, with the best five ‘taches winning.

So from the ‘tache to the track, I’m preparing as best I can for Bahrain, although as always the pitfalls of international travel have intervened. Our flights have been changed to Wednesday, which means we will start racing on the Thursday. It’s not ideal but they are the cards we have been dealt.

As for the event, I look forward to it, as Bahrain is a very different event in many ways. For one, we are done and dusted by the Saturday afternoon as Sunday is holy, but the big difference is the track is hosed down every night with a jet washer to get rid of all the sand which blows on to the circuit.

This also means all the rubber gets washed away and the circuit doesn’t grip up as the weekend goes on. It basically means the track is like a race one circuit all the time.

Last year we went there with the car set up as if we were racing in China, and it didn’t work in the first race so we had to change. This year we are pretty confident we have got it right, and after Indy we are full of confidence and the goal is to have both cars in the top 10. A top five would be an awesome achievement.

In terms of the track I like it, but I think it could be better. We race on a circuit which is ¾ of the F1 track, but unfortunately the back of it is cut out, which incorporates a lot of sweeping corners. There are enough but the large amount of straights mean the race can come down to who has more horsepower. Based on that I think Mark Winterbottom will once again be hard to beat.

Our recent success has only driven everyone in the team to work even harder towards a round win, and we know we can achieve it sometime; we are on the back of the top few teams and improving all the time.

Qualifying shouldn’t be as important as it was at Indy, and even though I finished third for the weekend I feel as though my qualifying could have cost me the round victory.

I heard they extended the contract for Queensland raceway for one year. Hopefully that means Townsville is on the agenda again. Queensland needs a race other than Indy but based on my well documented thoughts I would prefer it not to be at Queensland raceway.

By the way the Ferrari in the MMS section is indeed in the Adelaide Classic Rally but is only touring not racing.
