Things are going well this week. Sienna is currently sleeping, which means Char and I can get some rest. Sorry for the lack of MMS this week but I’m a bit preoccupied with my one foot tall bundle of joy.
So much so that I actually fell asleep during the F1 last night, right before Lewis Hamilton had his tyre blow out, which is typical because nothing really happened before then!
While we’re on the topic of F1, Mark Webber has to be the unluckiest guy in a racing helmet. He never drives a bad race, but inevitably faces some sort of mechanical failure to trip him up. I don’t know whether he is angry or disappointed about it. It would certainly grate at me.
A car not making the distance is a concern all drivers have, especially in V8 Supercar right now, as we head into the enduro events. Last year we didn’t finish either of the two events and need an improved showing this year. We need to make sure the cars are strong enough to do the job.
We don’t change anything on the cars though but we do use newer parts, especially at Bathurst. All parts have a life, and the engine often has a shorter life than other parts on the car, which is usually 1500km. So with the 1000km of Bathurst most teams will drop in a new engine on either the Friday or the Saturday night before the race.
We may for instance not run a new gearbox as they last 3000km, but use one which has done say 500km already and so on and so forth, as long as we know the parts will last the race.
I will head over to Perth tomorrow for the unveiling of the new VE Commodore ute. I love utes as a rule but owning one may be a bit harder to justify now that Char and I have started a family. I also love wagons so therein lies the compromise.
This weekend I will be up at Eastern Creek for the “Muscle Car Masters” where I will be driving an ex John Harvey HDT A9X Torana. It’s a beautiful old car which will be a privilege to drive. The older cars tend to race a bit more sideways and drift a lot more than the current ones, but I’m just out to enjoy the weekend. I will be racing against Skylines, Commodores and Sierras, which were the cars I loved to watch in my childhood.
Kezza: I thought Shane Van Gisbergen’s rookie effort was amazing and probably the third best I have ever seen behind Marcos Ambrose, who claimed pole at his first race and proved himself to be a good driver who is very driven to succeed, and Ryan Briscoe who also claimed pole and is a consummate driver.
Geoff: I apologised to Todd after the race and when I hit him it was just an unfortunate racing incident. When I nudged Todd I actually tried to turn him straight but then Will Davison hit me and put an end to that.
My opinion on the whole incident is pretty well known by now, but once again, if it was up to me I wouldn’t have brought out the safety car for Jason Bright’s accident, but rather placed a section under yellow. That’s just my opinion, the safety car seems to be more of a field compression car.

Potentially I could have been second overall for the weekend, so looking back on it to finish up seventh was a little disappointing, especially given the speed I had in the wet, which is a constant for me. I like the wet, it must be something to do with being a Kiwi!
To be second in [...]

Qual 7th, finished race 11 after having contact on lap 2 and knocking out wheel alignment. Going to be two wet races today, so will be a mixed bag.
