Queensland, awful one year slightly better the next

Queensland was a pleasant surprise, well after the first race anyway. I thought the Queensland curse may have struck again when Shane Price spun me in the first race, which eventually forced me to retire with a bent tyre rod. I don’t think Pricey was too innocent on that one, but we’ll leave that on the track.

I actually enjoyed myself on the Sunday as we tweaked the car a bit and had more speed. It was great to be able to drive a good race at a circuit that has given me so much grief in the past, and to be in the points was a bonus. Hopefully I will see more of them at Oran Park, where I have never qualified outside of the top ten. I love the place, not just because of results, but because the circuit is a great drive.

While I still don’t love Queensland I was happy to receive support. Support I wasn’t sure I would receive given my comments about the track, but it seemed that many, including officials and fans, agreed with me about the state of the track.

I’m not surprised that the wash- up has seen WPS fined for bringing the sport into disrepute — you can’t have a go at officials — but I think Craig Gore got his point across.

Check out my MMS to see one great young fan named James: his dad made him the hat he is wearing complete in the shape of a car and the back has wings!

Speaking of great drives, I am very much looking forward to racing at Albert Park next year as part of the Grand Prix program. F1 was a dream of mine, and even though I am not driving in the sport, to share a circuit with the F1 teams, cars and drivers is a special event for me.

The European Grand Prix was awesome, even though Lewis Hamilton went off early. To see those guys doing around 100km/h and struggling for grip was nuts; it reminded me of Sandown in 03 when we were doing 40km/h in a hail storm and losing grip. Just insane conditions.

The special event for Char and I hasn’t happened yet. The obstetrician thinks Char will give birth this weekend. I’m getting really excited while I’m sure Char can’t wait to give birth to our child. In light of that keep the baby name guesses coming for your chance to win a prize.

In response to your comments, I appreciate the support you have given me, but in regards to Craig Lowndes I am sure he was instructed to say what he said.

While I’m not huge on AFL I have decided to support the Richmond Tigers, the combo of a tiger as the mascot and being from a town named Richmond was too much to deny, although I have been told I’m in for plenty of heartache. But we’ll see.

Don’t forget the Tasman Open days on the 4th and 5th of August at 98 Bell St, Preston, and check out my new video where i have a chat with Murph.

I’ll see you there – JR.

    Hey Jase,

Well done on an excellent finish to the weekend!! Its not a win but certainly getting closer to one. Was a bit of a shaky start but by race 2 you were starting to get into the rythm!! whats your take on the incident in pit lane with you and Rick Kelly? Did that slow you down at all? Is it hard to see oncoming traffic in pit lane? They say its harder for rick being in the number 1 pit as he has to come out on a difficult angle, which makes it impossible to see. Your battle with Ingall in the last laps of race 3 was great!! You did well to keep him back, great viewing!!

As for your comment on the queensland track I believe you have every right to say what you did, and the owners/management of the track should take it on board and help fix the state of the track. Mainly because your not the only one to comment on the state of it!! So good on ya!!

Good luck with char and the baby, I really hope all goes well as im sure nothing beats the birth of a first child!! although I bet a 1st at bathurst isnt far off it!!

Well best of luck with everything! Don’t pass out at the birth and cant wait to here from you soon!!

    All the best

    Nic:)

haha going for Richmond is bound to bring you alot of heartache mate!
You should go for Hawthorn instead, at least we’re winning this year.

Congrats again on the awesome comeback at Queensland, it’s obvious the track is in need of a bloody good repair when I saw the cars literally bouncing down the main straight.
Surely that’s not good for the cars or the track- i’ve got a few ideas on how to improve it though haha

All the best to Char for the impending birth, I hope it all goes off without a hitch for her. Mum keeps saying that all the ‘pain’ of childbirth is quickly forgotten once junior is handed to you.

See you at the open day where no doubt you’ll kick my butt on the simulators!
I intend to get my licence soon so wish me luck as i’ll probably be the most nervous person on the road- the total opposite of your regular teenage hoons.

Just before I go, seeing as you hate Queensland so much, which track do you really love racing at?

Sorry for the long comment, i’ve rattled on a bit.

    Hey Jase,

congratulations on QLD. unfortunately i didn’t get to see this race as i was stranded up north in the pilbara where TV is still not really heard of. i had to get the updates via 3 mobile (which isn’t great) and my sister who was in civilisation watching. for a track that had bad memories, you did FABBO!! AND You get points - YAY!!!

Richmond hey, they are actually worse than my team (go the blues) so that isn’t too bad, i won’t give you too much grief.

i was very happy to see that you guys are having an open day, the very weekend that i will be over, so i will deffinately be coming to that, although i have absolutely no idea where preston is?? if anyone wants to give me directions, that would be great!!! i will be staying in the city, somewhere…….

oh, for the comment about the pain of child birth is forgotten after they hand you over bubs - LIE!! not true. my son is now 10 and i remember the pain like it was yesterday (and i had the epidural, really recommend that for Char!!!) i hope Char has an easy birth and that the labour isn’t too long.

goodluck to you both for bub’s arrival

    Bron

    Hey Jase,
Great job on the weekend. Fantastic to see you so high up, Murph as well. Hope it continues for Oran Park. Keep the points coming. The battle with Ingall was great to watch and you did a top job to keep him back there.
Good luck with the birth, 2 great weekends in a row. My name suggestion is Thomas, not sure why just like then name. Hope all goes well.
Hope the open day is good, wont be able to make it unfortunately.
    Take Care
    Ryan

    Hi Jase,

A huge congratulations on your race at QLD, you did a fantastic job. I’m glad that the controversy surrounding the event didn’t put you off the race - you’re a champ! Am glad that you feel supported, it should definately go without say if you ask me.

Fantastic choice re the tigers! Generally speaking, I’m not a huge footy fan (until the finals are here) but the tigers are my team and even though they’re not playing very well this season, they’re still worth barracking for.

Am sending you, Char and the little bub lots of love and joyous energy and hoping that it all goes very well. Bub should hang out til the 8th though, it’s the best possible day to have your birthday (I may be bias here).

  8. *K8* Lauren says:

In reply to Bron, i’d be happy to meet you in the city on the Saturday and i’ll show you how to get to Preston if you’d like.
I don’t have anyone to go with on the Saturday so it’d be nice to meet up with another Tasman fan before I get there :)
Feel free to e-mail me if you’d like me to direct you to Preston, you should be able to send me an e-mail by clicking on my name.
And regarding the childbirth, I wouldn’t know of course only being 17 myself. I’m only going by what my mum said and was hopefully trying to make Char feel better about giving birth!

Jase, I got you and Char something for the bubs today (I hope it fits haha) so i’ll most likely give that to you on the Sunday :)

  9. Kerry says:

AFL? Richmond? Here I was thinking you were a Warriors man!! I sure hope you’ll be behind the AB’s later this year Jase. Hate to think a home, a car, a pie and a bit of racing is seeing you convert to an Aussie. LOL

Watched all the racing over here. I see you had a bit of trouble with another bloke trying to get past you. He’s known for being a little toey and he gets a bit pushy - but just tell Greg to back off!! But if Tasman MS has some spare cash, get Murph some counselling before he destroys what little PR image he has.

I wondered if all the Kiwis got together over the weekend. You, Greg, Simon Wills, Chris Pither, Kayne Scott, John Mac made for a bit of a crowd. You could even try & convince Richo he’s a kiwi!! That photo taken (at The Creek I think) a few years ago is a great one, everyone from John Faulkener & Gentleman Jim to you, Greg, Simon & The Rat. It’s even got Johnny Mac and Mark Porter.

Well good luck for both the big day and for Oran Park. Keep any eye out for the next up & coming Kiwi. Shane Van Gisbergen will start for TKR. Take it easy on him Jase, he’s just a kid - seriously, I think he’s still at school! Remember when you first started. So go easy on him Jase.
