I’ve had plenty of media attention this week after my blog and comments about the Queensland raceway, even landing on the back page of The Courier Mail. It’s the first time V8s have had the back page of Queensland’s biggest paper. It was a landmark occasion.
My comments have generated plenty of discussion and have the sport, and the upcoming race, in the headlines so hopefully plenty of people come out to watch.
But I’d like to clear up what was said. I never said the track was “easy” as Craig Lowndes stated. My results indicate I have had trouble there.
I said it was boring to drive around and I stand by that comment. I wouldn’t trade my job for any other, but the track is boring!
You either enjoy driving a track or you don’t, and I would still rather race at Queensland than not race at all, but Queensland is a substandard circuit and the surface needs an upgrade similar to what Calder Park needed.
All the media work was interesting, as are your comments. I found it amusing when one radio interviewer called me a whingeing Kiwi, when I was only stating my opinion about the circuit.
I have enjoyed reading your comments on the matter and thank you for them all; everyone has a right to their opinion. I have mine others have theirs, that is what makes us all different and is part of the beauty of life.
Winning a race or the event will not change my opinion about the circuit at all, but it’s a win I would take. Actually I would take a top 10 position in qualifying. That is my first challenge for the weekend and something I have never achieved at the venue.
I guess it would be ironic if I did perform well, especially if I won!
With the baby well and truly on the way the naming competition is coming to a close, so I urge you to keep the names coming and get them in soon!
Char is due any day now and I have a contingency plan in place for the weekend.
Basically to assure I get home as soon as possible I have a mate who will fly me to Brisbane Airport in his helicopter after the last race, allowing me to get the earliest flight home so I may witness the birth of my first child.
The pool table has finally arrived and I am taking advantage of Char’s pregnancy to get some early wins on the board. At present I lead what is sure to be an epic series 2-1. And yes I have been leaving the white in the middle of the table to make things difficult.
Char’s parents have been great around the house, and have helped with the renovations, even pulling down the old pergola to make way for a new one, while my garage is coming along very nicely.
The Tasman Motorsport open days have been officially announced. The event will be held on the 4th and 5th of August at 98 Bell St. Preston. So come down and meet the team and enjoy the BBQ.
Take care - Jase

Jase, your comments even made TV coverage over here. TV3 referred to your comments and then had footage of Lowndes & Ingall. You might have to keep an eye on The Enforcer and his young assistant. It is their home track and Ingall & Ambrose have had some good races there.
Atleast your little controversy is far less than what IRL stirred up. News from the US is that the two drivers, their teams and several individuals have been fined and put on notice. Sam Hornish Snr has been banned from Pit Lane for 1 month. Sure hope this isn’t where Mr Cochrane is heading.
No mention of Jason the Toolman, guess you must have been busy preparing for the new arrival & preparing for Queensland. Sounds like you have it all sussed, family first, then racing, leave the home improvements for later.
Well, good luck for this weekend. Actions speak louder than words so the best way to shut your critics up is to beat them on the track. And I need Tasman Motorsport to do well to pull me up a little on the Sportal Dream Team.
Take care mate,
hey jase, good to hear charlotte is going well. good luck for qld too. im not going to enter the name comp but after reading the suggestions charlie is a good name for both a girl or boy. talk to you soon jase. hails
Good luck Jase for Queensland and of course the arrival of your new born Baby. Lets hope that he or she is healthy and well and also you child will be the finishing touches to another great result
haha way to take advantage of the rellies Jase!
I hope you enjoy winning pool while you can, it’s rather unfair of you to be taking advantage of Char’s pregnancy though so I hope she comes back at you and wins some games after junior is born! haha
Trust Craig Lowndes to take things out of context again and make a mountain out of a molehill- the guy annoys the hell out of me (not just coz he drives for ford) with his stupid smile- (I swear he’s had botox to make him smile like that all the time) and half-wit comments.
I read an article on the v8’s website today that said you were taking an excavator to QR this weekend- i’d love to see you actually do that, it certainly would make the round more interesting.
Good luck for the weekend- it would be rather ironic if you won, here’s hoping you do!
Looking forward to finally meeting you at the open days,
Lauren
I am sure you are not the only one who thinks queensland raceway is a boring track and needs upgrading. My brother is Les Laidlaw from Stone Brothers Racing and I know their drivers have their opinions too. Some of us ‘kiwis’ know you are not a whinger and you are right to voice your opinions too. Good Luck in the upcoming race. Wendy

Jason - Good Luck on the weekend with the race… The birth of a child is very special, so I do hope you are there for the big event… Pity we are in Preston 10th -13th August visiting relations, doing a flying visit to catch up with family and friends… It would have been nice to do something different… Take care… Linda
Good work Jase! I cannot wait to see you on the 4th of Auust. The majority of my family are coming over. Sorry can’t go on the Sunday because my sister is having a party.
You only hate a track but Craig Lowndes hates the officials! But I do agree with you on everything you say, I’m 13 but I can still make a better track.
I read your interview in the Herald Sun. (It’s a keeper, damn straight!)
Why don’t you do what Paul Morris did to you, but on Craig Lowndes? That will shut him up, especially by accident!
Good luck anyway Jase, keep out of trouble and keep up with the unnamed baby! LOL.
Go Tasman! (HOPEFULLY) See ya at the open day, but if you need to see Char, that’s really understandable.
P.S Take out Lowndesy with the bulldozer instead!!!
Hey Jase
Good luck for this weekend. Hope bubs stays put for a bit longer to allow you to concentrate on a great result for the weekend. 24th July is a great day to have a baby anyway
Kieran would love to come over for the open day but think 3 trips to oz this year is enough. He enjoyed seeing you again at the fieldays though.
Our picks for the new arrival are Kieran (obviously!!!) & Gemma.
Hope Char is enjoying her last days of pregnancy and you are taking some time out together before junior arrives.
Take care
Karen

Jase,
you are a professional racing car driver. You certainly have your right to your opinion about what you do and don’t like about the tracks! Good luck in Queensland, I hope you go well, even though it’s your least fave track! I hope that any negative comment from ridiculous gitts doesn’t distract you at all.
Watched the race… That was a bit chitty after the first lap… I feel sorry for you and Murph. Those dhead drivers need a lesson on how to drive a car.
Anyway, how could they call you a whinger. Lowndesy is the biggest whinger apart from my sister in Australia (should there be a new V8 award called The Biggest Whinger of the V8 Year?)
Where is the excavator?
Hey Jase,
Great work today in races 2 and 3!! Fantastic comeback.
QR:1 Jase:2 haha

Hey Jase sory wasn’t going to comment but being called a dud is a major cop out, anybody who knows or has met you realises that you’ve worked hard to get where you are and it is obviously a result of your hard work. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and its what makes the world a litle more exciting, but when you talk about queensland and track condition it becomes a safety issue also and a few people should start looking at things from a more realistic angle, it is obvious to me also that many drivers have different driving skills and styles and racing wouldnt be so exciting without these things. Over the past five years i have seen many people benefit from your friendliness honesty and openess that are involved in and support motorsport. At least your not holed up ignoring everyone like many drivers are.
