Wild weekend at Winton.

The weekend from hell is finally over! After the pace I had in qualifying I really thought it could have been my weekend, and still believed it up until my off in the first race, from there things just got worse.

The first incident involved Todd Kelly attempting to go up my inside at turn 10, Todd had a good run at me and I went to brake in the middle of the track; it was so slippery and I wasn’t aware of it at the time and ended up skidding across  the grass.

I actually came out of that incident ok and had worked back into the top 10 when I was forced to pit due to losing a wheel nut, it’s so rare that it happens, but it did. I suppose it was better that it happened this weekend when nothing was going right!

At the end of that I went back out on slicks and was improving until Paul Radisich managed to tap me in the back and spin me off. I think at this stage I knew it wasn’t my weekend!

It just got worse in Race 2. I was driving a good race and moving through the field on slicks until I managed to get a wheel off the dry line and on to the wet. As luck would have it I missed all the sand traps and skidded into the wall.

Race 3 saw me start at the back of the field and pick up 14 places to finish 16th and out of the points once again, ending a weekend that should have been good with nothing to show for it.

Unfortunately that is racing. I love driving but at times it can be frustrating!

The weekend was best for those who stayed on the circuit, and they were the drivers who were in the points. So many people had dramas out there which just showed how difficult the conditions were.

It was good to see Murph do well, and he was able to show what the car is capable of by getting in the points. Good work buddy.

At the present time I would say that Garth Tander is the best driver in V8 Supercar, based on his form this year. Garth is driving with plenty of confidence and when you have that confidence up, speed really is easier to come by, and you don’t really make mistakes.

On the home front I am ‘project managing’ the extension of the garage and the building of a façade. I would love to build it but due to the likelihood of there being plenty of half finished jobs I will let the professionals handle it.

Our baby continues to grow bigger and Char and I will be starting anti-natal classes this week, focusing on birthing, so I am sure they will be plenty of fun and a joy to go to.

I will be off to NZ on the 4th of June for the release of the new Astra over there, before coming back for Eastern Creek.

So make sure to say g’day if you see me – Jase.

My major competition came from Fiona and Matthew Hamilton, a brother and sister duo who pushed us all the way in the race. The race [...]
